Wolfsburg MD insists playmaker should not be banned

Wolfsburg managing director Dieter Hoeness does not believe playmaker Diego should be banned for an incident in the loss to Bayer Leverkusen. The German FA confirmed on Monday that it is looking into TV pictures of the tussle between Diego and Bayer's Arturo Vidal in Saturday's Bundesliga fixture. Beforehand, referee Thorsten Kinhöfer confirmed he had not spotted the incident during Wolfsburg's 3-2 home defeat. Hoeness believes Diego, who scored the opener in the defeat, was not at fault, insisting Chile international Vidal was instead trying to get the Wolfsburg player sent off. He told Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung: "I do not think Diego has hit Arturo Vidal deliberately. "It is just because Vidal is doing an extra jump in that situation that this foul is getting such a special mention. "This is a pure provocation, Vidal is attempting to get Diego red carded. Vidal should behave like a sportsman!"
