Sunderland are keen to tie up a deal for on-loan winger Ahmed Elmohamady.
The Egyptian wide-man joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan from ENPPI.
The Black Cats already have a deal in principal agreed with Elmohamady's club, but things have been complicated by rival interest.
Skysports.com revealed earlier this month that amongst others, Arsenal and Manchester United had been alerted by Elmohamady's displays.
But now with news of other clubs showing an interest, Steve Bruce looks set to try and push through a permanent deal in January - rather than wait until next summer.
"The fee is agreed between the clubs and we're possibly looking to do it in January," said Bruce.
"We would love to make that permanent - he's a gem."
