Aberdeen have suffered a major blow with the news that Sone Aluko faces up to 12 weeks out with injury.

Young winger out for up to 12 weeks

Aberdeen have suffered a major blow with the news that winger Sone Aluko faces up to 12 weeks out with injury. The 21-year-old, who has been struggling with a persistent Achilles problem, has had his leg placed in a cast after being examined by a specialist in London. Nigeria international Aluko, who started both of the Dons' SPL wins this season but has missed their subsequent two defeats, will remain in plaster for two weeks. "The initial prognosis is that Sone could face up to 12 weeks on the sidelines," said a statement on the club's official website.

Full recovery

"However, this is a worst-case scenario and it is hoped that he will make a full recovery sooner rather than later." Youngster Aluko has endured an injury-plagued spell at the Pittodrie club, missing much of the first half of last season through various niggles and international commitments. He picked up the Achilles problem while training with Nigeria Under-20s ahead of their World Cup campaign. The winger then underwent stomach surgery in January and battled against numerous minor fitness problems following a seven-week stint on the sidelines.
