Bremen striker still struggling with thigh problem

Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro expects to miss their UEFA Champions League clash with Tottenham on Tuesday evening through injury. The former Chelsea player continues to be hampered by a thigh muscle problem he sustained in the 4-2 win over Cologne at the end of last month. Peru forward Pizarro was forced to miss the internationals against Jamaica and Canada and did not feature in Bremen's 0-0 Bundesliga draw against Bayern Munich on Saturday. He told reporters: "I do not think I will be able to play. I have made some progress, I am feeling better right now, but I still have to overcome it. "I had hoped I would be closer to fitness at this point in time, but I still need to fully recover. "I do not think I will be ready for the fixture against Tottenham this week." Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf will also be without defensive duo Naldo and Per Mertesacker through injury for their opening Group A encounter.
