Waiting game for Laws

Clarets could add a loan star, but Nugent is a non-starter

Brian Laws is prepared to bide his time before deciding whether he needs cover for Chris Iwelumo. The Burnley boss could be drawn into the loan market should he feel it necessary to bolster his attacking ranks. The Clarets have been left short up front after Scotland international Chris Iwelumo picked up an injury. However, it is hoped that the former Wolves man will not be sidelined for long, meaning he will soon be back in contention.

Advice

Laws is prepared to be patient for now, keen to avoid making any unnecessary calls, and has sought to end speculation suggesting he could be about to reignite Burnley's interest in Portsmouth striker David Nugent. "On the advice of the specialist the course of action with Chris is to allow the injury to calm down and to get a clearer picture in the next few days," he told the club's official website. "Hopefully it will be a small time out of action rather than a longer period. That will also give me an indication of where we have to plan and whether we have to bring in reinforcements which I will do if that's the right thing to do as the (loan) window opens again in seven days. "A lot of media have been putting two and two together with Nugent being here last season and being successful and the fact that we liked him. However, the financial side of things make it unrealistic."
