McDermott blasts 'untrue' story

Reading manager Brian McDermott has denied stories that Jobi McAnuff has handed in a transfer request. The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Madejski Stadium after an impressive first season with the club. Queens Park Rangers are thought to be interested and reports recently surfaced suggesting that McAnuff was keen on a new challenge. However, McDermott has insisted nothing could be further from the truth, with McAnuff set to stay with the Royals. Responding to the transfer request rumour, McDermott told the Reading Evening Press: "That's not true. It's completely untrue."

Mills

Defender Matt Mills is anxious for McAnuff to stay and has urged the club to do everything in their power to keep him. "Jobi is massive for us. A lot of our play comes through him and he's a top player," said Mills. "Top players gain interest from other clubs and I'm sure he's had it all through his career. "He knows how to deal with it, but obviously if there is a situation then the club have to do all they can to keep him happy."
