Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has revealed the club are in talks with former Tottenham and Southampton defender Chris Perry.
The 37-year-old has been without a club this summer after being released by the Saints at the end of the season.
A move to Gillingham could now be on the cards after Hessenthaler revealed the positive nature of the talks.
The Gills boss said: "We chatted for about an hour-and-a-half and it was obvious that he thought this was the sort of club he could finish his career with.
"He has vast experience and could be one heck of an asset in the short-term.
"He knows the wage structure here and wasn't put off, he lives in Essex and he's still in great shape physically.
"If it came off I think he could be fantastic for us."
Gillingham are currently preparing for a campaign in League Two after being relegated on the last day of the League One season.
