Clark offers Macclesfield striker contract carrot

Huddersfield Town have offered Macclesfield Town striker John Rooney the opportunity to earn a contract at the Galpharm Stadium. Rooney is out of contract at Macclesfield, but has been offered terms to stay with the League Two club, who would be entitled to compensation if he leaves. The 19-year-old trained with Derby County and Preston North End last term, and has now linked up for pre-season training with Huddersfield. He featured in the Terriers' friendly win over AFC Emley on Friday and was joined in the team by Australian midfielder Calum Hare. Both players are likely to be involved in Saturday's fixture with Wakefield and Huddersfield boss Lee Clark is keen to give the pair a chance to impress. Clark told the Huddersfield Examiner: "We are having a look at both of them. "They will play two or three pre-season games, and be given a good opportunity to earn a contract."
