Lennon raids Cowdenbeath for versatile defender

New St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has continued to rebuild his squad by raiding former club Cowdenbeath for Darren McGregor. McGregor has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Saints to become Lennon's second signing following the arrival of David van Zanten. The versatile 24-year-old defender came through the youth ranks as a teenager at Cowdenbeath and made his first team debut under Keith Wright in 2004. He was released by the Blue Brazil two years later and joined Lothian junior side Arniston Rangers. After an impressive two-year spell in the Juniors, McGregor returned to Central Park for his second spell with the club in the summer of 2008. McGregor - who can play in defence as well as midfield - missed the first half of last season due to a combination of injury and illness. But he returned to help lead Cowdenbeath to their second successive promotion as they secured a place in the First Division.
