Luisao eyes squad effort

Brazil defender Luisao insists that it will be a squad effort if his side are going to win the World Cup.

Experienced defender not concerned about starting place

Brazil defender Luisao insists that it will be a squad effort if his side are going to triumph in the World Cup. Five-time champions Brazil are one of the favourites to succeed in South Africa this summer, with their last success coming in 2002. Benfica defender Luisao may only be on the fringes of Dunga's starting line-up, but the 29-year-old is happy at the strength in depth within the squad.

Uncertain

A reserve side managed to see off the first-team in training on Saturday, with the likes of Daniel Alves, Thiago Silva, Gilberto and Luisao all not certain of a starting place. Luisao believes the most important thing to have is a good squad mentality, and he is not concerned about starting. "To be a starter or a squad man is something which is important for the media but I have a distinct view," he said. "This is the Brazilian squad and I am not worried about starting or not. "I prepare as if I would start." Brazil have been handed a tough draw for the World Cup as they face Portugal, the Ivory Coast and North Korea in Group G.
Motivation
Fellow defender Lucio will be taking part in his third finals, but he still has the same motivation when putting on the yellow jersey. "I am as happy to be here now as I was in 2002," he remarked. "It was a huge pleasure to get called up once again. "I still have the same desire as if it were my first World Cup."
