Fiorentina have snapped up highly-rated midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino from Serie A rivals Udinese.

The Italy international has been a regular for Udinese since joining from Messina in 2006 and has progressed with each passing season.

The 2009/10 campaign proved to be his most productive to date, with 36 outings bringing 11 goals.

Having caught the eye, D'Agostino was reported to have drawn admiring glances from the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid.

However, they were put off by a hefty price tag and opted against making a formal approach.

Fiorentina are prepared to splash out, though, and are believed to have paid around €9million (£7.5m) for the 27-year-old.

A statement on Udinese's official website read: "Udinese Calcio announce they have reached an agreement with ACF Fiorentina for the sale of midfielder, Gaetano D'Agostino."

D'Agostino made his debut for Italy last summer, and has five caps to his name, but he was left out of Marcello Lippi's squad looking to defend their World Cup crown this summer.
