Cristian Riveros' agent claims his client is close to agreeing a move to Premier League outfit Sunderland.
The Paraguayan midfielder is currently on the books of Mexican side Cruz Azul, but is reported to be attracting interest from afar.
It appears that Sunderland are leading the hunt for his signature, with a deal almost complete.
"It's only a matter of resolving a few details and then Cristian will be able to sign his contract with Sunderland, tying him to the club from next season," Riveros' agent Jose Maria Gonzales told Ultima Hora.
Such comments appear to have ended any hope Cruz Azul had of persuading the 27-year-old to pen a new contract.
Talks regarding fresh terms have been ongoing for over a year, but no compromise has been reached.
Should Riveros complete his proposed move to Sunderland he will become the second Paraguayan at the Stadium of Light, with Paulo da Silva having joined the club last summer.
