Fans' favourite commits to Colchester

Colchester midfielder Kem Izzet has put pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal. The 29-year-old joined the Us from Charlton in 2001 and has gone on to become the club's longest-serving player, making over 350 appearances. Izzet's new deal will take him through to the summer of 2012, and manager Aidy Boothroyd believes it shows the club is heading in the right direction. "There is always a danger with contracts and that they might run out, but I have said to the lads 'where else would you rather be at the moment?'" Boothroyd told the club's official website. "I haven't come here just to talk about good times in the Layer Road era, I've come to get us into the Championship and beyond that. "It's a journey we are all on and so far we're at the very beginning."
