Midfielder and defender on the comeback trail

Birmingham pair David Murphy and Teemu Tainio are ready to return to the fold, according to manager Alex McLeish. Both players have been on the comeback trail with respective knee injuries and are now available for selection once more. Finnish midfielder Tainio, who is on loan from Sunderland, has featured in five Premier League games for the Blues so far this season while defender Murphy has not played at all this term. McLeish is pleased to have them back in the squad although with the Blues performing well this campaign, he says they will have to wait for their chance. "They are ready to play. They just have to be patient," he told the Birmingham Mail. "Good depth in any squad is important and it showed against Wolves. "We brought on three subs and they all made a contribution. "It's not just about the 11 on the field. At any given time one of the 18 can win you the game. "They need games but, in saying that, if I needed to ask any one of them to go in an emergency, they could handle it no problem. "We need to top up their training. "They need to do little extra bits at the finish of the normal day's training or else we will arrange these private matches and, of course, there's a reserve game Tuesday night at Portsmouth."
