Inter defender makes Maradona's squad

Argentina coach Diego Maradona has revealed that Walter Samuel will definitely make his World Cup squad. The summer showpiece in South Africa is drawing ever closer and managers are starting to generate lists of those they hope to have with them in the quest for global glory. Maradona has so far been very open with his choices, admitting that Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano, Juan Sebastian Veron and Jonas Gutierrez are all certainties to be involved. Inter Milan centre-half Samuel has now been added to that list, despite being yet to feature for his country since the current regime took the national reins. "Samuel is going to be on the list of players that will travel to South Africa," admitted Maradona. "I have spoken with (Inter boss Jose) Mourinho and he has told me that he will have Samuel in top shape. "I have no doubts that he will be very important for my team." Samuel played in all three of Argentina's games at the 2002 World Cup, but failed to make the cut in 2006 and has fallen out of favour on a regular basis ever since.
