Saints boss on a showstring budget despite McGinn sale

St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson hopes to be active in the transfer market but will not be helped with funds from the sale of Stephen McGinn. Midfielder McGinn joined Watford for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £125,000, earlier this month with MacPherson on the lookout for a replacement. The 41-year-old is on a tight budget at St Mirren Park and with reinforcements needed in several areas, MacPherson is remaining patient as the transfer window clock ticks down. "We would like to add numbers to the squad," said MacPherson. "I can see one or two areas we would like to strengthen. "Talks are ongoing between clubs, players and the agents. But they can take some time, players want to see what their options are and maybe decide later in the month. "But we won't be able to spend any of the money that was brought in through the Stephen McGinn sale." He added: "We just have to wheel and deal, but we're used to doing that."
