Defender confirms rejecting move to Peterborough

Simon Francis says he does not want to leave Southend United after rejecting a move to Championship strugglers Peterborough United. The Shrimpers confirmed last week that they had accepted a bid for the 24-year-old, however having given permission for Francis to talk to Peterborough, the player was unable to agree personal terms. The former Sheffield United right-back, who has started all but one of Southend's games this season, insists he is fully focused on maintaining his good form for Steve Tilson's side. He told the club's official website: "I listened to what Peterborough had to say, but it didn't seem right at the moment. "I think staying at Southend is right for me because I'm enjoying my football and I'm very settled living in this area. "It's obviously nice that a club from a higher level have seen you play and want to sign you and, as a player, you do want to play as high as you can. "But I have no interest in leaving Southend."
