Striker ready to return

Middlesbrough have been boosted by the return to training of Jeremie Aliadiere. The French striker has not yet played under new Boro boss Gordon Strachan - who took charge at the end of October. Aliadiere was injured against Derby County on 20th October, but needed an operation on his ankle. Since his arrival, Strachan has brought in Dave Kitson and Marcus Bent on loan - but having Aliadiere back at his disposal will be a huge boost. "Aliadiere is training again, so that's good to see," said Strachan. Aliadiere is now in contention to return to Boro's squad ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Scunthorpe United. Strachan is also looking to finalise some transfer dealings in time for when the window opens in January. The likes of Barry Robson, Gary Caldwell and Kris Boyd are understood to be amongst his top targets and he admits things are progressing. "I will try my best to improve the squad with whatever resources I have got," he said. "We know what the problems are and we are trying to deal with them. "We need more players who are able to take up the level of responsibility we are looking for."
