Aldershot boss Gary Waddock has welcomed the return of Ben Herd into his first-team plans.
The full-back has made just one appearance for the Shots since completing a summer switch from Shrewsbury.
Niggling injury problems have prevented him from making a positive impression at the Recreation Ground, but he is now closing in on full fitness.
Herd came through 90 minutes for Aldershot's reserves on Tuesday night and is now pushing for a recall ahead of Saturday's home date with Cheltenham.
New arrival Dean Parrett, who has joined the club on loan from Tottenham, could also come into Waddock's thoughts this weekend.
"It was good to get Ben Herd back and to have 90 minutes under his belt," Waddock told the club's official website.
"He is a key member of the squad and he has worked extremely hard in training. Match fitness is different to training but he can come back into the first team group especially with the number of games we have coming up.
"Dean Parrett will train again on Thursday after going back to Tottenham after the Crewe match.
"We still have a couple of bumps and bruises but Adam Hinshelwood and Andy Sandell are now jogging which is encouraging."
