Midfielder focused on getting back into contention

Mahamadou Diarra's agent has quashed rumours the midfielder is set to leave Real Madrid. The Mali international has been linked with a move from Madrid in the wake of Real's extravagant spending this summer. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso mean the Spanish giants will have to trim their squad. Diarra is thought to be one of those now surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Arsenal and Tottenham the latest clubs linked with the 28-year-old, after AC Milan and Juventus last month.

Fitness fight

But Diarra's representative, Frederic Guerra, insists he is focused on regaining full fitness and has no desire to move on. "I've read the reports about Milan and I called Diarra, saying, 'you know something?' and he said 'no'," Guerra is quoted as saying on the calciomercato website. "Then he made the same request of me, getting the same response. "At this time, Mahamadou is thinking only about recovering from his injury, returning to training with his team-mates and reaching his usual levels. "Perhaps it will be two months, so I think it's difficult for some teams to be interested in a player who is injured."
