Brazilian signs four-year deal with Cologne

Bundesliga new boys Cologne have signed Brazilian defender Pedro Geromel from Vitoria Guimaraes. The highly-rated centre-back, who was linked with a move to Bolton in the January transfer window, has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal. He will join the rest of the squad at their summer training camp in Austria with immediate effect. "We are delighted that we have managed to capture Pedro Geromel despite competition from elsewhere in Europe," general manager Michael Maier told the club's official website. "He is 1.90 metres tall and extremely good in the air and also very quick. "He played a major role in Guimaraes' strong season last year that saw them finish the Portuguese league in third place. "Pedro Geromel is just the player that we have been looking for and is certain to strengthen our squad."

Novakovic extension

Meanwhile, Milivoje Novakovic has signed a one-year contract extension with Cologne. The Slovenian striker scored 20 goals last season to help fire Cologne to promotion and Maier is thrilled to have secured his services. "Milivoje Novakovic is an important player for us. He proved that with his goals last season," said Maier. "We are delighted that he has committed himself to Cologne by signing an early contract extension."
