Keeper fury at Almunia link

Mariano Barbosa has reacted furiously to reports that Manuel Almunia could replace him.

Villarreal keeper Mariano Barbosa has reacted furiously to reports that the club are lining up a move for Arsenal's Manuel Almunia.

The Yellow Sunbmarines have been strongly linked with a summer bid for the Arsenal number two.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal would contemplate listening to offers for Almunia - given the likely departure of Jens Lehmann in the summer.

Despite this Barbosa - who battles with Sebastian Vieira for the number one jersey at El Madrigal - is disappointed to learn of a possible interest in Almunia.

"If Villarreal want another keeper, I demand  to know about the arrival now," blasted Barbosa.

"I am tired of this rumour because it damages our work at a decisive moment of the season."

Barbosa claims that he has always been under major pressure to perform for Villarreal.

"Always I am without doubt that my arrival in the summer of 2005, it is very complicated for me to play and be productive."

Reports in Spain suggest that Villarreal's management is not convinced by either Barbosa or Viera.

While Almunia appears to be first choice, Getafe's Roberto Abbondanzieri is another option.

Meanwhile, Villarreal are also being linked with a move for Osasuna's in-demand striker Valdo.

The former Real Madrid trainee has impressed in Pamplona this season and both Espanyol and Real Betis are also showing an interest.

The 26-year-old's current contract is due to expire this summer.
