Rotherham manager Steve Evans has confirmed the potential loan exit of defender Kirk Broadfoot fell through this week.

The former Scotland international was the subject of interest from League One Coventry but a deal could not be agreed.

Evans said: "They had a chat with us but they couldn't get it over the line. It just fell down for different reasons.

"He is still a Rotherham United player. We have always said when players aren't playing in the team or a club shows interest we open it up for discussions.

"Kirk has reiterated his desire to get in the team here and that is good enough for us."

Broadfoot, a central defender, was a summer signing at New York and started the season at right-back to cover for the injured Frazer Richardson, while also featuring at left-back.

He has only managed a handful of appearances at centre-half, including the 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

After that game Broadfoot spoke of his desire to earn a regular berth in the Millers side.

He said: "If I can get a run of games at centre-half I will get sharper and back to where I was.

"It's difficult to find your feet, that comes with games so hopefully I can get a run at centre-back."

Broadfoot is likely to lose his place for the Millers' Championship clash with Birmingham on Saturday, with fit-again Kari Arnason returning to the fold.
