Joe Cole has said that his determination to make an impact for Aston Villa is pushing him in his return from injury.

The 32-year-old former England midfielder is now back in full training and is desperate to impress both Paul Lambert and the fans.

Speaking to Villa's club website, he said: "It's been frustrating being injured but that is part and parcel of being a footballer.

"There aren't many footballers that don't get injured.

"There's never a good time to be out but mine has come at the start of the season with my new club.

It's great to be here at Villa. It's a fantastic club and the lads and the coaching staff have been brilliant since I arrived.

"It's been frustrating as motivation is high with me and I want to do well for my new club and my new team. I want to make an impact here at Villa."

Cole was called in as a late substitute to the game against Arsenal after a widespread virus affected the Villa side.

And the former Chelsea man believes he still has a big part to play in what he thinks will be a long season.

He added: "It's great to be here at Villa. It's a fantastic club and the lads and the coaching staff have been brilliant since I arrived.

"I obviously want to go out on the pitch and make an impact for all those reasons.

"But first, it's about building up strength and fitness.

"It's a long season and there are lots of games to be played. There's an FA Cup campaign to come and 33 more Barclays Premier League games to go.

"I don't want to rush it because there is so much football still to be played."

Villa's next assignment is away to Cole's former club Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
