Karl Henry believes Queens Park Rangers afforded Manchester United too much respect in their 4-0 rout at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Louis van Gaal’s United eased to their first victory of the season courtesy of strikes from Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata.
However, an abject QPR display allowed United to cruise to victory and midfielder Henry could offer no excuses on behalf of his side.
Henry admits the Hoops did not execute their gameplan effectively and revealed manager Harry Redknapp was not impressed at full time.
We conceded sloppy goals and after it went 3-0 the game was over. We can’t be happy with our performance and the way we conceded goals.
“It wasn’t the gameplan to show them respect but when you are out there on the pitch, you see they are a good side,” he told the London Evening Standard.
“Their movement is very good and I think we got caught between trying to hold our shape and pressing them.
“When we did go pressing them, we didn’t go in numbers. We didn’t do what we set out to do.
“The end result is us looking like we stood off them and they are playing around like it is a testimonial. That’s not what we want and the manager has told us that.
“The manager was disappointed that we showed them too much respect.”
Niko Kranjcar made his Premier League debut for Rangers having re-signed on a second successive season-long loan from Dynamo Kiev and claims their defending must improve if they are to retain their top-flight status.
