Defender sees Euro campaign cut short

Greece defender Avraam Papadopoulos will miss the rest of Euro 2012 after sustaining a knee injury in Friday's opener against Poland, UEFA have confirmed. The Olympiakos defender damaged ligaments in his left knee in the 37th minute of the 1-1 draw after an innocuous-looking challenge with Poland striker Robert Lewandowski. Papadopoulos tried to play on, but had to be replaced. A statement on UEFA's official website read: "Scans confirmed the 27-year-old suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and sprained lateral collateral ligament of the left knee." Papadopoulos has returned home for treatment. Greece's next Group A game is against Czech Republic in Wroclaw on Tuesday.
