Valenciennes coach Daniel Sanchez and chairman Jean-Raymond Legrand claim the nine-match ban imposed on Carlos Sanchez is overly harsh.
The French football authorities have sanctioned the Colombian midfielder after he saw red during a Ligue 1 meeting with St Etienne.
Sanchez was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Fabien Lemoine which left the St Etienne man with ankle damage.
Daniel Sanchez accepts that his player needed to be punished, but feels top clubs would not have been stung with such a lengthy suspension.
Unfair
"It is unfair," he told L'Equipe.
"Sanctioning Valenciennes is very easy. With a big club it wouldn't happen this way. They are looking to make an example of us.
"I don't question the punishment, but it should not have been that big."
Legrand has echoed the words of his manager, saying: "When I see PSG complaining that Momo Sissoko has received a two-match ban it makes me wonder what is going on.
"If he had been banned for nine matches there would have been a revolution!"
