Departing Caley man distraught at weekend dismissal

Departing Inverness Caledonian Thistle defender Russell Duncan is gutted his last moment for the club is being sent off against St Mirren. Duncan was told by manager Terry Butcher last week that he was not being offered new terms at the club where he has spent nearly a decade of service. The former Aberdeen stopper had hoped to surpass Barry Wilson's record total of 353 appearances for the club, but he will now be suspended for their run-in. Duncan had been keen to end the campaign on a high and just hopes the club's fans remember the positives he enjoyed with the Highlanders rather than his last actions.

Gutted

"I am absolutely gutted," explained Duncan. "It was not the way I thought I would end my Caley Thistle career. "I hope what I have done over the 10 years will be remembered rather than the red card. But being sent off is what I will remember and that hurts. "Hopefully I will get a club in the summer. I will just have to kick on and see what the future holds for me. I have had a great time here and to leave this way is annoying. "I have had more highs than lows but this is a real downer and it hurts not to get the chance to say goodbye to the fans properly. They gave me a good ovation and hopefully they will remember me for the good stuff. "My wife and kids were here as well so it was so disappointing to be sent off. I am one short of Barry Wilson's appearances record and it would have been great to have joined him on 353 appearances."
