Cesar wants Rooney revenge

Bostjan Cesar says Slovenia will try to 'wind up' Wayne Rooney in Wednesday's crunch Group C showdown with England.

Defender still upset at striker after last year's friendly

Bostjan Cesar says Slovenia will try to 'wind up' Wayne Rooney after revealing he is still upset by the striker's actions in last year's friendly against England. Slovenia lost 2-1 at Wembley last September and England took the lead in the game through a penalty after Rooney and Cesar had tangled. Former West Brom defender Cesar was unhappy with Rooney's involvement in the incident and has accused the Manchester United ace of trying to injure him. And, ahead of the crunch World Cup showdown in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, Cesar is determined to see Slovenia exact revenge on England.

Clear conscience

"Everybody knows Rooney deliberately tried to injure me," Cesar was quoted by the Daily Star. "He should be ashamed of himself. "We will try to wind him up and make it an unpleasant experience for him and his team-mates. "I don't have fond memories of that game. The whole of Europe knows what Rooney did. It's not sportsmanlike. "I have a clear conscience, but I doubt he has." Slovenia keeper Samir Handanovic added: "It was wrong of him. The penalty made us angry because everyone knew it was not a foul. "It was not the kind of thing I expected from a quality player such as him."
