Darlington manager Simon Davey has continued his plans for life outside the Football League by letting a total of 17 players leave the club.

Mark Bower, Nick Liversedge, Mark Convery, Mor Diop and Richie Byrne are among 14 players deemed surplus to requirements by Davey.

Gary Dempsey, Dan Groves, Dan Riley, Stuart Giddings, Rikki Baines, Simon Madden, Nathan Mulligan, Ross Chisholm and Patrick Deane are also looking for new clubs after not being offered contracts.

Alan White, Andrew Milne and Shane Redmond, meanwhile, will return to their respective parent clubs after loan spells with the Quakers.

However, former Barnsley boss Davey has chosen to retain Paul Arnison, who has penned a new one-year deal.

"Releasing players is not something I like doing," said Davey. "It's not easy telling someone that they won't be staying at this football club.

"There is a lot of work to be done. We need to recruit players and get them ready for a very tough season. That process has been underway for the last month, we've signed some players already and moved some players out of the football club.

"The process will be ongoing until July 1. We've been concentrating on next season ever since we came in. You're in the job to play football but it will be nice to give the players a rest, get the retained list ready and be able to look forward to next year."
