King and Valentine strike in Hereford success

Hereford ended a run of 16 league games without a win as they beat Accrington 2-0 at Edgar Street. Craig King opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Ryan Valentine struck again in the 67th minute to end Hereford's dismal run. Hereford took the lead when on-loan Leicester teenager King scored on his debut in the Football League. A flick on from central defender Darren Jones was half-volleyed into the net by King with goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin stranded off his line. At the other end, Hereford goalkeeper Adam Bartlett made two good saves to stop Luke Joyce and Robert Grant levelling for Accrington.

Missed penalty

Hereford had a chance to double their advantage in the 26th minute when Marc Pugh was brought down in the penalty area by Grant, but goalkeeper Dunbavin anticipated Pugh's penalty, pushing the ball down on to the ground before smothering it. After the break, Pugh went close to making amends when he outpaced Tom Lees and Dunbavin to the ball, but his delicate chip dropped wide of the far post. But Hereford eventually struck again 23 minutes from the end when Valentine out-jumped his opponent before heading past Dunbavin from a Mark Marshall corner.
