Chester stopper pen long-term Grimsby deal

Grimsby Town have completed the signing of Chester City defender Paul Linwood on a three-year contract. The 25-year-old central defender caught manager Mike Newell's eye after impressing against the Mariners last season. Newell says Linwood, who is his third close-season signing, will provide good competition for places at the back.

Solid defender

"He's a good solid defender and he is going to bring more competition for places," Newell told the club's official website. "He was outstanding against us when we played Chester towards the end of last season." Meanwhile, Peter Sweeney is expected to sign a two-year contract with Grimsby on Monday following his release by Leeds.
