Udinese defender Damiano Ferronetti looks set to miss the remainder of the season with a knee ligament injury.
The full-back sustained the knock during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Siena.
The 24-year-old lasted just 13 minutes of the Serie A encounter before he was forced from the field.
Initial reports suggest Ferronetti has suffered ruptured ligaments and is expected to be sidelined until the summer.
He is set to undergo further scans in an effort to determine the full extent of the problem, but the outlook appears bleak.
Ferronetti picked up the injury during an innocuous clash with a Siena player, appearing to buckle his knee as he placed it on the pitch.
