Crewe Alexandra midfielder Ben Rix has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The 25-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season having started just one of his four appearances in League One.
The wide man made his debut as a 17-year-old in October 2001 in the 1-0 loss to Coventry in the Championship while his last outing came on 20th December when he came off the bench in the 0-0 draw away at Millwall.
Rix progressed through the club's famous academy alongside the likes of Dean Ashton, now at West Ham, David Vaughan, who went on to play for Real Sociedad and Lee Bell, now at Macclesfield.
Fine servant
Rix made 159 appearances for the Alex in total, scoring six goals, and enjoyed loan spells at Scarborough and Bournemouth on his way to becoming one of the club's longest-serving players.
"Ben came through the academy with us and has been with us a very long time," club chairman John Bowler told the
club's official website.
"He has been a fine servant for this football club.
"He hasn't been able to establish himself in the first team as much as he would have liked and now feels he needs a fresh challenge elsewhere.
"I would like to thank Ben for his long service and wish him every success with his career. He will always be welcome here at Crewe Alexandra."
