Trio earn first calls ahead of England friendly

Joachim Low has named three new players in his squad ahead of Germany's friendly against England next Wednesday. Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is injured and will only travel to Berlin for a meeting on Monday. Hoffenheim duo Marvin Compper and Tobias Weis have been rewarded for their side's excellent start to the Bundesliga season, while Wolfsburg's Marcel Schafer has also been called up for the first time. "We want to use the last game of the year to try out one or two things and get some impressions for the coming year," Low told the German press. "The three newcomers have all earned their nominations as a result of their current form." Torsten Frings is a notable absentee in the 20-man party following his recent disagreement with Low. The Werder Bremen midfielder vented his frustration to the press after being dropped from the starting XI for the recent World Cup qualifiers against Russia and Wales. He has since apologised to Low and accepts the manager's decision to leave him out against England. "I spoke with Joachim Low on the phone and we agreed that I will not be included," Frings told Kicker. "It was a mutual decision. During the talks we have had over the past weeks I told the coach that maybe it would be better if I did not come along after all the recent drama. "Low has now told me that he will do just that, also because he wants to try out a few things against England."
