Serge Gakpe fired Monaco ahead after 37 minutes, and it was left to Mathieu Bodmer to salvage a 1-1 draw for Lille in the 77th minute.

St Etienne missed the chance to overtake Lille as they were beaten 1-0 by Bordeaux, with Alejandro Alonso (69) grabbing the all-important goal.

Sochaux extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 3-1 victory over Lorient, although they had to come from behind after Sylvain Marchal netted in only the second minute.

Former Liverpool striker Anthony Le Tallec led the fightback with two quick goals (24 and 27), before Karim Ziani scored from the penalty spot (45).

Marseille came from behind to draw 1-1 at Troyes, with Toifilou Maoulida (60) cancelling out Yann Lacheur's earlier effort (17).

Sedan remain rooted to the bottom despite a 2-2 draw at Nice.

Joseph-Desire Job broke the deadlock for Sedan (16), but Nice came storming back in the second half through Bakari Kone (56) and Cedric Kante (77).

However, Gregory Pujol struck three minutes from time to earn a vital point for Sedan.

In the day's final game, a Bryan Bergougnoux penalty after 66 minutes helped Toulouse to a 1-0 victory against Rennes.
