Blackburn chairman Williams says club have not been contacted

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams says the club have not been contacted by Newcastle United for permission to approach Mark Hughes. Hughes became the bookmakers' favourite to take over at St James' Park after Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp turned down an approach last week. Furthermore, Hughes has failed to rule himself out of the running to succeed Sam Allardyce on Tyneside.

Why?

But Williams has explained that no approach has been received by Newcastle, while questioning why Hughes would want to leave Ewood Park. "We have had no contact from Newcastle whatsoever," he said. "He is doing a great job here and we obviously want to keep him. "We are chasing a UEFA Champions League place so why would he want to leave?"
