Gers wait on striker ahead of Lyon clash

Rangers travel to France to take on Lyon in their second game in Group E of the UEFA Champions League. The two sides come into the game at Stade Gerland following contrasting starts in their opening group matches with Rangers beating Stuttgart and Lyon losing at Barcelona. The game will mark the first meeting between the two teams in European competition. Rangers are likely to go with a defensive approach with just one striker expected to plough a lone furrow in attack. Jean-Claude Darcheville had been earmarked for that role, but the former Bordeaux forward is struggling to shake off a thigh problem to play. Daniel Cousin, Kris Boyd and Nacho Novo are all standing by to replace Darcheville in attack if he fails to recover in time. Rangers boss Walter Smith has no other injury worries to contend with, as Steven Smith is the only long-term casulaty. Lyon have a number of injury problems to deal with ahead of the visit of the Glasgow giants. Veteran goalkeeper Gregory Coupet and Brazilian defender Cris are both sidelined because of injury. Swiss defender Patrick Muller remains sidelined, while striker Fred is suspended. The in-form Karim Benzema is expected to lead the attack for Lyon as they go in search of their first win in the Champions League in six games.
