Gornell the hero for Stanley

Accrington Stanley took the points at Kenilworth Road as their first ever competitive clash with Luton ended with a 2-1 win. The visitors started the brighter and went ahead in the 16th minute when James Ryan seized upon Harry Worley's loose header to cross for Paul Mullin to convert from two yards. The Hatters drew level in the 34th minute when Jake Howells crossed from the left for Asa Hall to find the net with a hooked left-footed volley from 20 yards. The second half saw home goalkeeper Conrad Logan having to save at the feet of Accrington's Terry Gornell in the 51st minute. But Logan was powerless to stop Gornell blasting home what proved to be the winner from six yards four minutes later after Paul Mullin had nodded down John Mullin's free-kick. Luton rallied late on and Wayne Andrews prodded Craddock's cross-shot wide from six yards in the 84th minute before Kenny Arthur produced a stunning save to block Hall's piledriver a minute from time.
