Portugal remained top of Group B in the U21 European Championship – ahead of England – after drawing 0-0 with Italy.

The result means England, who beat Sweden 1-0 earlier in the day and are in prime position to qualify for the semi-finals, can guarantee their passage into the last four if they beat Italy in Olomouc on Wednesday.

The Portuguese top the group with four points, while Sweden and England have three and Italy one.

The Azzuri can count themselves unfortunate not to have registered their first win of the tournament though as they created the better chances against a below-par Portugal.

Luigi Di Biagio's side were dominant throughout but Andrea Belotti struggled to find his A-game in front of goal, missing countless opportunities, including seeing a header come back off the crossbar.

It was an oddly subdued display from Portugal, who put in an impressive showing to beat England 1-0 in their previous clash and boasted eight senior internationals within their ranks.
