Notts County proved too hot to handle for local rivals Mansfield as the Magpies secured a 2-0 JPT win at Meadow Lane.
The Magpies dominated the clash but had to wait until midway through the first half to make the breakthrough. It was worth it, though, as a wonderful exchange of passes between Jake Cassidy and Ronan Murray ended with the latter drilling a low shot into the bottom corner. Reece Brown, the on-loan Birmingham winger, also came close to adding a second before the break when he sent a firm header just wide of the post. Mansfield's threat was limited, but Alex Fisher did force a save from Fabian Spiess early in the second half as they looked for an equaliser. But normal service was resumed in the 65th minute when Cassidy grabbed a deserved goal with a clinical finish from close range.
