Bas Dost scored his eighth and ninth goals of 2015 as Wolfsburg claimed a 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin on Sunday.

The Dutchman, who netted only twice in the first half of the season, put the Wolves in front after 10 minutes before supplying the winner after Julian Schieber equalised.

The Wolves were good value for their win, which puts them 10 points clear of third-placed Borussia Monchengladbach and, more importantly, 12 ahead of Schalke in fourth, meaning they are on course for a place in the Champions League next season.

Hertha, meanwhile, remained inside the bottom two having done too little to tame the Wolves in their own den.

Dost was the man to watch coming into the game, having netted a match-winning four goals in Wolfsburg's win over Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, but Hertha lost sight of him when it mattered.

Vieirinha's delicate lob was headed on by Andre Schurrle, and the Dutchman did the rest to give the hosts a 10th minute lead.

Hertha had hardly ventured out of their own half in the first half an hour, but when they did, they levelled clinically.

Valentin Stocker got the better of Sebastian Jung down the left and his cross was met by a stooping diving header from Stieber from five yards out.

The goal came as a shock, but Wolfsburg had been asking for it by failing to add to their lead.

They tried to make amends immediately in the second half, but Schurrle wasted a good chance from Dost's header.

Luiz Gustavo then rattled the right-hand post with a free-kick and Dost was on hand to tuck in the rebound for his 11th goal of the season - his 10th in his last six appearances.

Schurrle could have added a third while there was a scare at the other end when Roy Beerens got through, but the offside flag was raised with the Dutchman missing the chance anyway.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking let Dost get his warranted standing ovation by taking him off in the last minute, embracing the man who is keeping the Wolves in the hunt for the Bundesliga title this season while the rest of the league falls behind the top two.
