Benjamin Moukandjo scored the game's only goal as Reims ran out 1-0 winners at Lorient in Ligue 1 on Saturday evening.

Moukandjo volleyed home the decisive goal in the 72nd minute at Stade Yves Allianmat-Le Moustoir, to lift Reims level on seven points with their hosts.

Reims began brightly as Odair Fortes created a chance for Mads Albaek in the 10th minute, his 30-yard effort blocked by goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.

Just before the half-hour, Lorient's Mathieu Coutadeur played in Gilles Sunu on the left, but his shot went straight at the visitors' goalkeeper Johnny Placide.

There was a second opportunity for Lorient 10 minutes from half-time, when Benjamin Jeannot played a fine ball through for Sunu - but his volley from inside the penalty area flashed wide.

It was Reims who again started the better of the two teams after the break.

Albaek capitalised on defensive uncertainty, only for his shot to be deflected wide by Lamine Kone.

Reims got their goal 18 minutes from time, however, when more good work from Fortes culminated in a fine cross and Moukandjo made no mistake with the finish.

Lorient pushed forward in search of the equaliser, but to no avail.

Alain Traore's left-footed shot cleared the bar in the 81st minute; then in the 84th, Valentine Lavigne's effort brushed the woodwork and again deflected to safety as Reims took away the points.
