Victor Moses: Doubtful for final against Burkina Faso

Chelsea forward Victor Moses and Spartak Moscow strike partner Emmanuel Emenike are both doubtful for Nigeria ahead of Sunday's final of the Africa Nations Cup against Burkina Faso in Johannesburg.

Emenike leads the scoring charts with four goals so far in the tournament and Moses has two but both are injury concerns ahead of the Soccer City showdown.

The pair suffered injuries in the 4-1 semi-final win over Mali in Durban on Wednesday but the Super Eagles coaching staff are optimistic they will be fit to play.

Emenike missed training on Thursday and Friday while Moses worked under the supervision of the team physiotherapist on Friday.

Nigeria are confident Emenike will face Burkina Faso, spokesman Ben Alaiya telling reporters: "He has gone for a scan and he will be fit for the final."

Moses' Chelsea team-mate John Obi Mikel is sure to be in the final after starring so far in the tournament, directing play for the Super Eagles.

But Mikel has warned his team-mates to be wary of thinking they are favourites, despite bidding to add to tournament wins in 1980 and 1994.

Burkina Faso will look to Rennes winger Jonathan Pitroipa for inspiration after he won a reprieve to play in the final following his controversial dismissal in the semi-final.

Pitroipa was shown a second yellow card for simulation although the referee later admitted to tournament officials that he had made a mistake with the caution.

Pitroipa will be allowed to take the field with his team-mates who, following his sending off, went on to win their semi-final 3-2 on penalties after drawing 1-1 with Ghana.

Tunisian referee Slim Jdidi has since been suspended and Pitroipa reinstated to the squad to face Nigeria, the Stallions receiving a welcome boost with top scorer Alain Traore still out injured.

Nigeria and Burkina Faso met at the start of the tournament in Group C where they drew their opening game, Burkina Faso going on top top the group on goal difference.

Burkina Faso defeated Togo 1-0 in extra time before their penalty shootout triumph over Ghana, while Nigeria defeated pre-tournament favourites Ivory Coast 2-1 before winning 4-1 against Mail in their semi-final.
