Perisic scores before being sent off in 2-0 away win

Borussia Dortmund claimed a 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen in Bundesliga action on Friday night despite playing most of the second half with ten men. Defending champions Dortmund have started to click into gear over the past few weeks and headed to the Weserstadion in search of a third straight victory. But it was always going to be a tough test against a Bremen side that started the night in second place and could have drawn level with leaders Bayern Munich by winning at home. There was nothing to choose between the teams early on before Dortmund took the lead in the 42nd minute thanks to Ivan Perisic. Perisic then went from hero to villain just a couple of minutes after the interval as he was sent off for a second bookable offence, leaving Bremen with plenty of time to capitalise on their numerical advantage. The hosts could not find an equaliser, though, and it was instead Dortmund who scored next as Patrick Owomoyela struck from point-blank range. Dortmund held firm until the final whistle to climb above Bremen and go second in the standings ahead of the rest of the weekend's games.
