Cook rustles up Orient treat

Lee Cook's strike was enough to help Leyton Orient end Stevenage's 11-game unbeaten run with a 1-0 win in a fiery encounter.

Cook, on loan from Premier League outfit QPR, produced the only bit of quality on 15 minutes when he fired a superb shot past the helpless Stevenage stopper Chris Day. Boro were handed a lifeline when Orient defender Ben Chorley saw red in first-half stoppage time but, after Luke Freeman's tame effort was saved, the home side's challenge was ended when fellow sub Chuks Aneke was sent off. Cook fired his current club ahead on the quarter-hour mark when he cut in from the right wing and curled a left-footed shot into the top corner from 20 yards. The 29-year-old winger, who joined in late November, then crossed for Marc Laird 10 minutes later only for Laird to volley straight at Day. Orient were reduced to 10 men in first-half stoppage time when referee Darren Sheldrake handed defender Chorley a straight red after he clashed with Boro striker Chris Beardsley. Boro boss Graham Westley threw on on-loan Arsenal pair Aneke and Freeman but the former lasted only nine minutes before he was sent off for a dangerous high challenge on Terrell Forbes in the 75th minute as Boro's unbeaten league run was ended.
