A second-half penalty by skipper Gary Jones gave Rochdale a deserved 1-1 draw against 10-man Carlisle at Brunton Park.

On-loan Leeds defender Lubo Michalik was given his marching orders by referee Neil Swarbrick for the foul on Nicky Adams which gave Rochdale the penalty and led to a tense finish with the visitors putting Carlisle under concerted pressure. Earlier Gary Madine had given Carlisle the lead with a close-range header for his 12th of the season. From James Berrett's 21st-minute corner on the left, Madine supplied the finishing touch with his head from a couple of yards out. Dale's best first-half chance fell to Chris O'Grady just prior to the interval but from six yards out the striker diverted Brian Barry-Murphy's corner over the bar. However, Rochdale got their reward in the 62nd minute when Michalik chased back to nick the ball off Adams but the referee decided it was a tackle from behind and awarded a penalty, red-carding the defender who had also been booked in the first half. Jones tucked the penalty away into the right-hand corner for his 10th goal of the season.
