Akinde goal allows Taylor's men to close on leaders

Wycombe moved up to second and closed the gap on leaders Brentford to two points with two games left to play after a 1-0 victory over already-relegated Luton. On-loan Bristol City striker John Akinde struck his seventh goal for the Chairboys 11 minutes after the interval to move Peter Taylor's men a step closer to automatic promotion. A dreadful first half saw both sides struggle to create openings with Ian Henderson's weak header at Wycombe keeper Jamie Young in the 45th minute the only effort on target. The visitors stepped up a gear after the break and Akinde wastefully planted a free header over from six yards after Gary Holt's 48th-minute cross before substitute Stuart Beavon fired a cross-shot just wide two minutes later. The breakthrough came in the 56th minute when Akinde outmuscled Sol Davis to reach a long ball before cutting inside and beating Dean Brill at his near post with a 15-yard left foot shot. Luton piled on the pressure as the game wore on with Chris Martin forcing a smart save from Young five minutes from time.
