Hertha Berlin returned to the Bundesliga with a crushing 6-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hertha Berlin stormed to the top of the embryonic Bundesliga in their first game following promotion with Sami Allagui and Adrian Ramos both grabbing braces in a crushing 6-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. John Brooks and Ronny also scored for Jos Luhukay's side, who made an ideal start to life back in the top flight. Alexander Meier scored a consolation for the Eagles from the penalty spot, but the pre-season fears of their coach Armin Veh were confirmed in the capital as Hertha became the first promoted side to score six on the opening day of the season. Marcel Ndjeng sent in the first warning in the 14th minute with a shot which struck the crossbar before Anis Ben-Hatira missed a good chance for the hosts. Ramos also hit the crossbar after 16 minutes before finding the target minutes later, converting Ben-Hatira's pass to put the Old Lady in front. Central defender Brooks scored his first Bundesliga goal from among a pack of players in the penalty area and everything appeared to be going according to plan for the home side until the referee pointed to the penalty spot when Jan Rosenthal was fouled by Ramos. Meier converted to give Frankfurt hope before Allagui became the third Berlin player to hit the crossbar just before half time. Allagui could not miss in the 58th minute as he doubled Hertha's advantage before scoring his second moments later from the edge of the penalty area. Not wanting to be outdone, Ramos notched his second of the game to give Hertha a commanding lead with a low shot inside the near post. Ronny also got in on the act in the last minute to beat Kevin Trapp for a sixth time and complete a buoyant return to the top flight for Hertha as they moved to the top of the table.
