Freiburg's winless start textended to a sixth game after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hertha Berlin.

Freiburg's winless start to the Bundesliga season extended to a sixth game on Sunday after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hertha Berlin. Admir Mehmedi gave them the lead in the sixth minute, but Per Skjelbred levelled before half time for the visitors, earning them a valuable point. Freiburg hit the post in the last minute but they remain in the bottom two with just three points. The hosts, who threw away a two-goal lead to draw with Slovan Liberec in the Europa League on Thursday, started positively here and wasted little time in going in front. Sebastian Freis picked up possession before sending Mehmedi through, and he took the ball round Thomas Kraft before scoring into an unguarded net. Like on Thursday, Freiburg looked to build on their lead and Gelson Fernandes's shot was deflected away from danger in the 10th minute as they came close to doing so. Having weathered the early storm, Hertha slowly started to find a route back into the game with Ronny sending a free-kick into the wall before Skjelbred found a way through in the 38th minute, catching the home defence napping from a Ronny throw-in to score. If anybody was going to snatch a winner, it seemed more likely to be Hertha, until Fernandes wasted a glorious chance to secure Freiburg's first win of the season in the last minute. He suddenly found himself with only Kraft to beat, but he contrived to send his shot against the left-hand post, summing up Freiburg's season so far as another chance went begging.
